Spacecraft Docking and Berthing

With many of the analytical principles of the pad separation phenomenon, ASD’s capabilities include the simulation of spacecraft docking and berthing transients. The method incorporates the same component modal synthesis principles as pad separation, and as such, utilizes time invariant spacecraft component dynamic math models. Utilizing the methods in the Majed-Henkel (see ASD Papers) extension, the transient effects of guide vanes and alignment pins can be simulated. Contact force calculations include the structural flexibilities inherent in each components’ dynamic math model.
